Philip J. Roth, a Chartered Market Technician (CMT) is currently the Chief Technical Market Analyst at Miller Tabak + Co. At our May meeting, Mr. Roth will review his four kinds of indicators: 1) Trend & Momentum; 2) Sentiment; 3) Supply/Demand; 4) Inter-market Analysis. He will demonstrate the role of technical analysis in portfolio management and how technical and fundamental analysis can coexist. He will discuss equity market’s trends, starting with the secular (i.e., 20 years or so), the cyclical (the trend associated with the economic cycle), the medium term (3 to 6 months), and the short term (0 to a couple of months). Additionally, he will discuss sector relative performance and what are the charts telling us about the current market?
Mr. Roth is in his forty-third year as a Wall Street professional, having been the chief market technician at Morgan Stanley, Dean Witter, Shearson Lehman, EF Hutton, and Loeb Rhodes. Past President and a current director of the Market Technicians Association, and a former director of the New York Society of Security Analysts, he has been voted No. 1 in Charting and Technical Analysis in the Reuters survey. He is an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate School of Business at Fordham University, a frequent commentator in the printed and electronic media, and has lectured at numerous colleges and universities.
