Rad Smith is a Director in the Insurance Solutions Group in the Investment Banking Division, responsible for working with the firm’s insurance company clients to provide customized solutions for their asset portfolio, asset/liability as well as capital and funding needs. In that capacity, Mr. Smith focuses on regulatory, accounting, tax and other issues that are of particular importance to insurers in developing and implementing investment programs.
Prior to joining Barclays Capital in 2005, Mr. Smith worked at Deutsche Bank where he was responsible for structuring and marketing a range of products to insurers. Prior to that, Mr. Smith worked for a number of years at Goldman Sachs where he co-headed a financial institutions restructuring group that focused on large, complex transactions with banks and insurance companies. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Smith was a portfolio manager specializing in insurance company asset management at both TCW and Continental Asset Management.
Mr. Smith holds a B.S. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Certified Public Accountant.
